Nan Shan Life Insurance Co. is one of the longest-established insurance companies in Taiwan and has been committed to promoting the sound development of Taiwan’s insurance market since its foundation in 1963.
In June 2014, Nan Shan Life announced it was to undertake a major multi-year business transformation to enable it to expand its offering and provide the people of Taiwan with one stop shop of general and life insurance services and turned to technology giant SAP to help implement its CRM, Business Intelligence, Insurance and HANA platforms.
An IT program of this size was a challenging undertaking and one that would require a robust migration strategy to ensure its legacy data was transformed. Nan Shan Life would also need to design a robust integration architecture to allow it to scale its business using SAP technology, and legacy platforms which were to remain.
Inconsistent data quality, knowledge of the legacy system and sheer volume of data, were all challenges that would need to be overcome to enable the Nan Shan Life to meet its aspiration of providing the people of Taiwan with a multifaceted insurance brand.
As a trusted partner who has supported SAP on the majority of their Financial Services migrations, Bancon was enlisted by SAP as the services partner to strategize, conceptualize and execute the planned migration for SAP Financial Services Business Partner, SAP Insurance Analyzer and SAP Insurance including Policy Management, Collections & Distributions, Claims Management and Incentive Compensation Management.
In partnership with Nan Shan Life we started executing a detailed analysis that would allow us to gain an understanding of the volume of data we’d be handling and its quality. In parallel, we kicked-off a series of workshops with the business owners to understand the operational processes that were being put in place.
Once analyzed, we defined a migration strategy and approach that included a phased migration allowing Nan Shan Life to realize benefit sooner whilst also de-risking the process.
Using standard SAP tools, including SLT and MWB, we were able to meet migration timelines with no loss of data, breaches or go-live abortions. Success was achieved thanks to a carefully planned transformation, cleansing and testing strategy. Nan Shan Life Insurance tapped into our deep experience of migrations which mitigated common issues that otherwise may have occurred.
Nan Shan Life has now been using various SAP solutions for over four years and is a leading supporter of SAP technology and services within the APAC region.
