The client is a fast-growing digital retail bank in South Africa, built for digitally savvy consumers and designed to integrate financial services with a broader ecosystem of wellness and lifestyle benefits. As the world’s first behavioural banking platform, it uses data and rewards to encourage better financial habits while delivering a more personalised, secure, and intelligent experience.
As part of its mission to offer a secure and seamless digital banking experience, the client set out to enhance its payment capabilities by integrating into South African and global payment networks. Objectives included aligning with evolving regulatory and industry standards, improving automation and fraud protection in customer collections, and enabling scalable growth in payment volumes.
Bancon partnered with the bank to deliver a series of payment integration and scaling initiatives focused on regulatory compliance, enhanced operational efficiency, and superior customer experience. Working closely with the bank’s internal teams, we provided strategic guidance, implementation support, and seamless integration leveraging the bank’s modern core systems.
ISO 20022 Migration – SWIFT CBPR+ (Cross-Border Payments and Reporting Plus)
We supported the implementation of the transition to the SWIFT CBPR+ ISO 20022 messaging standard. This enriched the data quality of cross-border payments, enabling greater transparency, operational efficiency, and regulatory alignment.
Authenticated Collections (DebiCheck)
We are supporting the rollout of BankservAfrica’s Authenticated Collections, known as DebiCheck, to reduce debit order fraud and disputes. Key contributions included:
EFT Debit Orders
We participated in the design and delivery of a new EFT debit order processing solution that integrated with the bank’s core banking platform. This included:
The implemented solutions have enhanced the bank’s ability to automate collections securely and at scale, while also improving customer trust and operational efficiency. Bancon’s domain expertise and local knowledge were key to delivering a successful roll-out tailored to the South African market.
With scalable, regulation-aligned payment capabilities in place, the bank is well positioned to deepen its market presence and continue shaping South Africa’s digital-first banking future.
From 1st July 2025, the bank will officially launch the Payments Capability Academy – a dedicated two-year program focused on developing internal functional and technical expertise across SAP Banking and Payments.
The Academy reflects the bank’s long-term investment in building confident, capable teams that can support the evolving payments landscape. Bancon is proud to partner on the design and delivery of this initiative, which aligns directly with our strategy to grow a strong SAP Payments capability in South Africa.
First conceived in October 2024, it’s exciting to now announce the official launch of the Academy. A sincere thank you to everyone involved to date in bringing this vision to life.
